River's Body, 2022

School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Bachelor of Fine Arts Undergraduate Exhibition

3.5 by 5.5 feet

Graphite on paper

Printed excerpts from I Imagine Fire

The wall text reads:

Here lies the abandoned River, survived by his promise: the vow life makes to you when you're born. For every wrong, a right.

You are encouraged to tear off a strip of paper from below and take it with you.

In collaboration with a life worth living.

River, whose true name is Vow, was felled by my broken promises. I've killed him over and over again in every body he's presented to me, trying to love me for the better. This drawing is a depiction of his final body, the last one I've killed, and the last one I ever will. My broken promises rot on the beach in grey sunlight, becoming something strange as I become something kinder.
